| 1911 Prince of Wales Crown A state ceremony was held at Caernarvon Castle in Wales for which a new set of regalia was made which included this unusual coronet, knowns as a 'chaplet'. Designed by Sir William Goscombe John RA the 1911 crown was made by the Crown Jewellers Garrard & Co. Set with pearls and amethysts with four crosses pattee and four fleurs-de-lys around the rim, the design is unusual, being without shoulders and featuring flowers ... roses and the daffodils of Wales. On the death of his father in 1935 he became King Edward VIII, before he abdicated shortly afterwards and became the 'Duke of Windsor'. | |||||||||||||||||||
